As I write this on Wednesday, November 8th, 2000, the top story is the
excruciatingly close (and not yet decided) race between vice president Al
Gore and Texas governor George W. Bush for the office of President of the
United States. Florida's electoral votes and the state's apparent balloting
irregularities are at the core of this story, and they're overshadowing
what I consider to be the two most interesting races of this election
season: the races for Senate seats in New York and Missouri.
