Coming Home Again

They say you can never go home again. That's true, after the fashion attributed to the paradoxical Greek philosopher Heraclitus, who quoted by Plato as saying that you could not step into the same river twice. But even acknowledging that Tonya and I are no longer the same people we were ten years ago and that Ithaca is no longer exactly the same place we left in 1991, like Homer's Odysseus, we are nonetheless headed back to Ithaca

    Visitors to the original wall in Washington, D.C. are often struck by the way something so simple can be so emotionally moving. The original is a black scar cut into the ground not far from the Washington Monument. The Moving Wall is a portable half-scale replica of the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial that travels the nation. Its home for the first week of May 2001 was Ithaca, New York.

    You'd think by now something would have changed. In the January/February issue of 14850 Magazine, we wrote about how WNYS Syracuse had changed from UPN to WB affiliation, leaving Ithaca's Time Warner Cable with two WB channels and no UPN at all. Now, we know that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Roswell" are switching to UPN. Now, we know that Paramount's new Star Trek series, "Enterprise," will be launching on UPN this fall. You'd think by now there would be a solution. You'd think so, but you'd be wrong.
