I learned recently that Tops Friendly Markets has bought the A&P Supermarket on Triphammer Road in Ithaca, with the specific intention to close the store in a few short weeks. I am writing to ask you to reconsider, and keep this popular, apparently profitable store open.

    Nearly two weeks after the GrassRoots Festival, I am still recovering. This annual rite of summer, which actually occurs just outside of Ithaca in Trumansburg, NY, never fails to leave me both exhausted and exhilarated. With four stages of music running almost continuously from Thursday afternoon through Sunday night, it is a music-lover's paradise. The sense of community that forms over the long weekend is nothing short of amazing.

  • The Fallen: Trek game is more than technobabble

    Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Fallen, is unlike any Star Trek game in this genre that has come before it. More accurately, this is a third person shooter, as the game is played looking over the shoulder of your character. It is built on the Unreal Tournament game engine, but not without many enhancements.

    Did you know Jillian's in Rochester offers live music at the High Falls Festival site in Rochester's historic High Falls district? Did you know there was a Jillian's in Rochester? The club's third outdoor concert, held this past Wednesday, featured Blues Traveler, currently touring with the Pat McGee Band.     Go back more than a few decades, and Ithaca's west end was best known for industry, squatters' villages, and a conjoining of thoroughfares affectionately known as "the Octopus." There were a few restaurants in the area (some are still around), but it took a rerouting of Route 13 south onto Fulton Street, construction of new highway bridges, some attention from the City of Ithaca, plus state and federal agencies, and a lot of hard work to turn Ithaca's west end into the mecca of eateries it is today.
