To the Editor:
I urge voters to review the ballot choices carefully this year, paying particular attention to candidates appearing way down on Independent Line I.
Being a somewhat solitary politician, I usually find myself running alone on the Democratic ballot line. This year is an exception because I have the added benefit of being on an Independent line -- the Teamwork Party -- with Paulette Manos, candidate for Common Council from the First Ward in the City of Ithaca.I chose to run as an Independent for two reasons. First, because independent voters are rapidly becoming the majority, especially where local affairs are concerned. Second, because I wanted to express my support for Paulette Manos in her bid for re-election to Council. In my view, she has exemplified the best in local leadership. . . a steady hand, calm head and commitment to her constituents in the very large and diverse First Ward.
Intermunicipal cooperation has taken its lumps this year but, through it all, Paulette and I have worked together on the things best-served through City-County cooperative efforts. She never fails to keep me focused on the problem at hand; she never fails to consider the big picture and suggest the approach that brings the most benefit to all.
It is a pleasure to share a ballot line -- Line I Teamwork Party -- with Paulette Manos. I urge all First Ward residents to support her on Election Day. By the way, you can vote for me there, too!
