To the editor,
To the voters of Tompkins County: beware Greens in Democratic clothing! This year there are many stealth candidates on the Democratic line who are Greens playing down their true beliefs in public, and counting on the Democratic Party brand name to sneak them into office. Newcomers to the area especially should take note of the Alice-In-Wonderland state of local politics.
It saddens me, as a Tompkins County Democratic Committeeman, to urge the defeat of the following Party candidates: David Whitmore, Carolyn Peterson, Dan Cogan, Dooley Keefer, Martha Robertson and Will Burbank. Ms. Peterson in particular has already wasted eight years on Common Council serving as Dan Hoffman's hand puppet.
What these candidates share is a postadolescent hostility to American middle class values, an anti-car, anti-shopping zealotry, and the delusion that they are the sole custodians of local environmental concern, all of which cloud their ability to meet the standards of openness, temperance and pragmatism required of elected public officials.
