It's no secret that the Ithaca area is loaded with waterfalls. Pick up any tourist publication and you'll see a picture of one. They're one of the many reasons tourists come to the area. But as residents, have you visited the waterfalls in your own neighborhood?

If you don't know where Ithaca College is, take a drive south on Route 96B sometime. Home of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, and highly acclaimed School of Music. May 18, 2002 marked Ithaca College's 107th Commencement and James Earl Jones -- The Voice -- was the guest speaker.

The traditional fast food chains, derided as "the burger boys" by a recent slew of KFC ads, could fire back that it's hard to find the word "Fried" in any KFC marketing literature these days. Instead, the chains seem to be reinventing themseves for a more discerning clientele. One surprise is Burger King's new "BK Veggie" vegetarian burger.

The music swells. The crowd cheers. The geek stands tall at the podium. Perhaps there is a wind machine in the vicinity giving him that rippling, Superman vibe. But Andy Zax is the Music Geek, and you're not. Five nights a week on Comedy Central's "Beat the Geeks" (which has just been picked up for its second season) Zax and a variety of other pop trivia Geeks try and whip the pants off three unassuming civilians. Unlike other TV trivia shows, on "Beat the Geeks," it's okay to point out that Journey basically sucks.

When I told a friend in Florida I was going to visit the Ithaca Bakery, she exclaimed, "Oh, I love bakeries!" I had to stop and think for a moment, then explain that our Meadow Street "bakery" doesn't just do bread and pastries. They do bake the fresh bread, rolls, donuts, cookies, and cakes for a staggering number of hotels, stores, offices, and other eateries around the region, but I was there to visit the eatery part of the business.
