I'm angry because it looks as though the United States is about to wage war on Iraq without direct provocation, without clear evidence of the existence of weapons of mass destruction, without strong international support, and without even having shown indisputable ties between Iraq and the al Qaeda terrorist network.

Surely, one ponders, if war is always an atrocity, then why do we do it? One might as well ask why human history seems to be shaped by war, and human civilization shaped by a desire for peace. We go to war, each time we do so, so that we do not have to go to war again. Each war, not just the war nicknamed as such, is the war to end all wars. Human nature, not remaining static, leads us back to war. We hate ourselves for doing it, but we eventually have to -- for the greater good.

Since he first stepped between the pipes at Lynah Rink, Cornell sophomore David LeNeveu has been compared to such goaltending legends as Ken Dryden and Brian Cropper. Last Friday night against Rensselaer, LeNeveu earned himself a spot alongside them in the record books when he tied Dryden's junior-year school record for six shutout wins in a single season.

We are at the most dangerous times our country has seen in the last century. The "Patriot" Act, rammed through Congress by Mr. Bush's administration, is the worst piece of legislation the American people have suffered through since the Red Scare of the '50s. Now, in the third week of February, a document was leaked out of the Justice Department telling us about the "Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003." This has turned out to be a draft of new anti-terrorism legislation with even more problematic issues than the original "Patriot" Act.

The Music Geek has emerged unscathed from a second season on Comedy Central's "Beat The Geeks." Did 14850 want to hear about matters Geekerific with our old pal (and Cornell alum) Andy Zax? You bet your Geek we did. So with Andy in what he calls "show limbo" - not knowing at press time if "Beat The Geeks" will be back for a third season - but with possibly maybe a college tour in the Geeks' futures, we thought it was time to talk about the show, talk about music, but mainly to torture the poor soul by trying to make him pick any band over any other band.

Each January, the Barr family, owners of Cazenovia's Brae Loch Inn, host a Robert Burns Dinner to celebrate the life and works of the famed 18th century Scottish poet laureate. Last month's dinner, the Brae Loch's 57th annual, combined a traditional Scottish feast with enough pomp and ceremony to make any bard blush.
