Introduction

When we approach the world in a state of trust, it is said the stones speak. Whatever we chose as an object of sincere meditation becomes a messenger, revealing to us what we most long to know.

If we listen to the sky on these long, dark nights of December, we may be surprised at the lightness of its song. If we reclaim our innocence as the Festivals of Light are celebrated in so many traditions this month, we may find in the stars the blessing the Little Prince left:

"It will be as if, in place of stars, I had given you a great number of little bells that knew how to laugh..."

Mood of the Moment

Who better than the winter stars can teach us not to take the darkness seriously? For most of December, there is still a lot of action in Sagittarius, the adventurer who is capable of seeing every situation as a precious moment in a wondrous journey. He encourages us not to take anything (or one) for the "same old." If we open to the spirit of Sagittarius, we will feel how new this time on our planet really is: A bit frightening because no one is an expert, but ultimately invigorating as together we create a new definition of what it is to be human.

As the sun joins many planets in Capricorn (the horoscope's cardinal earth sign) on the 23rd, much light will shine on the Dependable Manifestor in each one of us. Perhaps we can, at last, throw off our fear of the dark as we take counsel from the laughing heavens and begin, personally and collectively, designing lighter forms for living and loving through the next millennium.
