One of the hottest acts in Ithaca will celebrate its two-year anniversary this Saturday at The Nines in Collegetown. Lead vocalist K.C. Weston was named 2013's Best Female Singer by Jim Catalano, local music guru extraordinaire, and in a music scene like Ithaca, that's a high honor.
Second Dam performing last year at The Gates. 14850 file photo. No longer just another student band, Second Dam has come a long way since its days as an opening act. Second Dam is a headliner now, and for Saturday they've lined up two opening acts of their own: The Rumble Scene, and Namarah, a fellow Ithaca College student and alternative-soul/R&B artist. It's the first public performance for The Rumble Scene, a new band with three strong lead singers.
For anyone unfamiliar with Second Dam's sound, expect soulful vocals, thought-provoking lyrics, and high-energy folk medleys. Throw in some uplifting violin and ukulele, and you've got one of the best acts in Central New York. "We're setting a precedent for the rest of the year with this one," says Weston, who tells us they'll debut a never-before-heard song and their new EP. "It's going to be a show."
The show is likely to be packed with students and locals alike, so get there early to snag a good seat -- not that you'll be sitting for long! Doors open at 9pm, and the show begins at 10 with a $5 cover.
