Shakespeare and Star Wars combine on LACS stage this weekend

January 14, 2014

The Take Ten Theatre Company, a youth theatre group in Ithaca, is helping us answer the age-old question of what happens when you combine George Lucas with The Bard. "Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope" plays this Thursday and Friday evening at the Lehman Alternative Community School in Ithaca.

The play, complete with Elizabethan language and iambic pentameter, was written by Ian Doescher based on the first "Star Wars" movie. "You might think, this be madness, yet there is a method in 't," said Newsday in its review. His sequels, "The Empire Striketh Back" and "The Jedi Doth Return," are slated to be published later this year.

There's a suggested $8 donation for the performance, which was previewed this past weekend at the Ithaca High School talent show. Performances are scheduled for 7pm on Thursday, January 16th, and Friday, January 17th. Organizers suggest arriving early for good seats in the LACS Black Box Auditorium. The school is at 111 Chestnut Street on Ithaca's west hill.
