An annual fall tradition in Ithaca, the Alzheimer's Gala to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Association of Central New York, is coming up on Tuesday, December 1st. The 9th annual event, hosted by Triphammer Wines & Spirits, will take place for the first time this year at the Statler Hotel on the Cornell Campus.
A past Evening to Remember. Photo provided."There will be plenty of great food, wine, craft beer, and music, with 100% of the ticket and auction proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central New York," says Aaron Rovitz, marketing director for Triphammer Wines & Spirits and Ithaca Coffee Company, a family-owned business dating back over seventy years in Ithaca.
The event, billed "An Evening to Remember," was started several years ago by Julie Crowley, the owner of Triphammer Wines & Spirits and Ithaca Coffee Company, when her mother, Patricia Crowley, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. She says her mother, who passed away in 2012, would be "so proud of the support in our community for this worthy cause."
In 2014, the annual event broke its fundraising record by raising over $50,000, says Crowley, and a portion of those funds are already suppprting a new program elping dementia patients at the Beechtree assisted living center in Ithaca through the nationally acclaimed Music and Memory program, which is being implemented by a team of Ithaca College faculty members and students.
"We are thrilled that our event drew the attention of the Statler, and that they have offered to host us this year," Crowley says. Free parking is available for all attendees in Cornell's parking garage on Hoy Road (just off the Route 366 entrance to campus) with the Statler providing a shuttle between garage and hotel, and VIP attendees can show their tickets at the Statler Hotel's entrance for complimentary valet parking.
"We feel strongly that this upgrade in venue will attract greater numbers of our community," Crowley says, "enabling us to provide funding for more local projects benefiting those in need of assisted care."
Tickets are available at the Triphammer Wines & Spirits or Ithaca Coffee Company stores, or online at ithacagala.com. Ballroom tickets are $55 or $100 for a pair, and VIP tickets, with access to an early VIP tasting room and valet parking, are $125 or $225 for a pair.
