"How would you like to spend Valentine's Day with British royalty? Or perhaps a French princess?" That's how the Ithaca Shakespeare Company is teasing their production of "Henry V," which opens tonight.
Ithaca Shakespeare Company presents "Henry V" beginning tonight. Photo provided. The famous Shakespearean history play, set around the Battle of Agincourt, is thought to have been the first play performed at the Globe Theatre in the spring of 1599.
ISC says the play is "both a patriotic play and an anti-war play, the culmination of the coming-of-age story begun in Henry IV and a complex examination of leadership, warfare, and political morality. It has romance and comedy, some of Shakespeare's greatest speeches, and a devastating battle sequence that is unlike anything else that Shakespeare wrote."
The production opens with 7:30pm performances tonight, Saturday night, and next Friday and Saturday night at the Hangar Theatre, with a matinee performance at 4pm on Sunday, February 14th. Tickets are available at hangartheatre.org, by calling 607-273-ARTS (2787), or at the door before performances.
